Tectonics Knowledge Base
How does plate tectonics help us predict where and when earthquakes will occur? The catastrophes of earthquakes and volcanoes are devastating to humans, yet they indicate a living and dynamic planet. How does plate tectonics help us predict where and when earthquakes will occur? Can we limit the devastation of earthquakes and volcanoes by knowing more about plate tectonics? Why does a seismic knowledge of the interior of the Earth help us on the surface? Should we initiate planning to avoid catastrophe-prone areas, or should we try to protect against those catastrophes as they occur?
How does Plate Tectonics CAUSE to Global Warming? I need evidence to back up that plate tectonics (continental drift) processes can cause global warming. I need to find plate tectonics forces that have nothing to do with humankind that is contributing to global warming. Much of what I have found is how plate tectonics can cause cooling of the earth rather than warming it. I need help researching this as I am not having much luck. I have found that ocean currents and volcanoes actually cool the earth rather than warming it. Whether I believe humankind is causing global warming or not, is not important in this research.
What is the primary support for the theory of plate tectonics? Choose one: Would it be D???? A. Plate tectonics is logically consistent with the evidence and can accurately predict related natural phenomena. B. More knowledgeable scientists accept the theory of plate tectonics than any other theory. C. The thoery has been proven to be correct after much hypothesis testing. D. It is consistent with other strong theories in which the universe is seen as constantly changing rather than static. E. Techology has provided better means of measuring such movement, providing evidence that it actually occurs.
How does plate tectonics affect sedimentation? I know that The plate tectonics not only affects the sedimentation by the formation of sedimentary rocks, but by how rocks move through the rock cycle to be igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. But is that it or is there more to it?
How does Plate Tectonics contribute to Global Warming? Can someone please help me research/understand how continental drift can contribute to global warming? I’m looking for NATURAL causes of global warming that are relative to plate tectonics. Can sea floor spreading contribute? Can the change in ocean currents from the movement of continents contribute to global warming? Can mountain ranges created from continental drift contribute in anyway to global warming?
How can there be volcanoes without plate tectonics? How can there be volcanoes without plate tectonics, since that is how they are formed on Earth? I am specifically wondering about the formation of Mt. Olympus on Mars, and how it is different from the formation of mountains on Earth.
What is the the process of plate tectonics? What is the the process of plate tectonics. I would also appreciate if you could Give specific examples of geographic features created by plate tectonics. Thanks ahead of time.
How are plate tectonics and volcanoes connected? What connections do volcanoes have with Plate tectonics? OK, I got geography homework and one of the questions asks me how are volcanoes connected to plate tectonics. I have no idea what the answer is. Please someone help. thank you 2 hours ago - 4 days left to answer.
In the plate tectonics theory, how was the upper and lower crusts originally formed? Plate tectonics tells us that there is an upper crust and a lower crust and that the upper crust is older than the lower crust because new lower crust is continually being made at the mid oceanic ridges and old lower crusts slips under the upper crust. When the earth was originally formed, it seems logical that all the crust was the same age and therefore of similar type. What mechanism created an upper and lower crust? Was there just and upper crust at some point? This is an aspect of the plate tectonics theory that is never explained, at least not in textbooks.
What are plate tectonics and the earth’s plate boundaries? i am doing a work sheet for plate tectonics and the earth’s plate boundaries for a year 8 class but would like to use it for year 9 and need so help on what it is and things i can do on the work sheet here is the aim: to learn what the plate tectonics do and where the plate boundaries on earth are. PLEASE HELP!! remember that this ios geogarphy! Thanks
What five observations could be made from Venus and Mars to show evidence of plate tectonics? I know five observations, I just don't know why we could use these observations... 1.Distribution of volcanoes (is it because of the molten/hot interior) 2. Impact craters(?) 3. Motion of large crustal plates (?) 4. Water (because its critical on earth for plate tectonics) 5. Mountain Ranges (because plates meet each other then forced up) If these don't look right please suggest new ways of looking for plate tectonics. Thanks!
Why is plate tectonics so critical to life? Can anyone tell me why plate tectonics so important to life? I have watched several documentaries that state that life will end in a few billions' of years from now, every organism will go extinct due to the end of continental shift. Can some one tell me why?
Why is the theory of plate tectonics still a theory and not a law? Is the theory of plate tectonics still a theory and not a law because people are not sure that there really are plates floating on magma under the earth and that they are causing the earth's crust to move, even if it is weak? Also, if you want (you don't have to), could you give 3 examples that help you argue that the theory of plate tectonics is a real process the Earth is going through? Thanks!
How do we know that plate tectonics are real? We were talking about that in Science and I though that just because there are earthquakes that doesn't mean that they are plate tectonics my teacher said that if I found a different way that we know that they are real that she would give me extra credit...
What is the theory of plate tectonics? I have a science assignment, where I need to answer this question: What is the Theory of Plate Tectonics? Now, I know that the plates are like the parts of the earth that each continent rests on, but what is the theory?
Which is supposed to happen first: the sun exploding or plate tectonics ending and the "death" of earth? I was watching the History Channel and it was about the history of the earth. It also showed what the earth will look like in the future. It was showing that plate tectonics would push the continents back into pangea, and then then the earth would eventually dry up and life would end. I was wondering which would happen first: the sun exploding and destroying earth and the life on it, or the earth drying up and life ending.
what is the fuel that drives plate tectonics? i was watching "how the earth was made" on the history channel and at the end of the program they said that the fuel that the earth uses to drive plate tectonics will run out and plate tectonics will stop. i know that convection currents move the plates around but is this fuel inside the earth they are talking about? what makes these convection currents?
